Even bullies sometimes grow up.

August 24, 2008

I went to my high school class reunion today.

Strangely (given my high school experience), I never even hesitated. The moment I heard about it, I knew I was going – I even wondered, before it was announced, whether there would be one. I hoped there would be. Maybe it was one of those “facing your devils” thing.

And so, I went. I didn’t have much expectations. I knew it wouldn’t be like high school – I was fairly certain few if any of the people who used to harass me would do it again. In fact, I expected things to be pretty cool with them – not awesome, but perfectly regular stuff.

Even so, there were things I didn’t expect.

Things like all the people who thanked me for coming despite everything.
Things like having long talk with people who used to bully me a lot.
And things like the number of people who came to talk to me, and, without any prompting, *apologized*. Most of the worst offenders included.

That? I really didn’t expect it.
